Xergenics - “Art of Movement”

This particular “form” of movement is a combination of many forms, including dance, martial arts, tai chi, yoga, etc. The conceptual philosophy which underlies all forms of movement are embedded within the art of movement. If this is understood, the practitioner could master any art form within a reasonably shorter time frame.

Therefore, the practice of the following exercises is geared not just for one particular sport or endeavor, but the strengthened condition to undergo all practices of physical art forms. The unique quality of Xergenics is that the practitioner gains a better understanding of his/her body through the use of “extensions”.

For the purpose of explanation, the use of extensions would be similar to the use of weights. The constant resistant of weight training conditions the body to adapt and grow as a result of the stress placed upon it. Similarly, with the use of extensions the body will adapt, whereas balance, coordination, control, focus, etc. will be natural outputs from the practice of these specialized exercises.

The practice of extension could also be likened to the ball player (basketball, football, golf, etc.), in each individual sport the player must ascertain a mental extension to the required goal. There is almost an unseen force or energy that is present when making the move, all being part of training the nervous system over and over again. Once the neurological pattern is set, the movement becomes one of the mind from then on.

“Extension of energy utilizing the Uni-X(tm) allows the practitioner to gain a better understanding of the wielder of the tool.”

The apparatus (Uni-X) Adult dimensions
Long-X ( 52 - 60” in length / 1.5” - 3” in diameter )
Short-X ( 26 - 30” in length )
Flexi-X ( 13 - 15” in length ) tied together by string

The Uni-X is a multi-faceted apparatus consisting of 6 various components.
Composed of long, long flexible, short, short flexible, double short and double short flexible extensions. All foam padded covered over pvc pipe or polyurethane tubing. Each stick section where brought together are of female components with a double male piece made of same material to be screwed into.

Xergenics - Benefits

Xergenics is a combination of energetics and extensions combined to produce a system of movement. Overall body shaping and toning is one of the many benefits gained from the practice of Xergentics.
Benefits include:
  • Upper and lower body tone
  • Cardiovascular exercise
  • Utilization of whole body - also known as functional movement or core training. The power of the whole body working together has much more strength than just a single part. Just watch the art of the baseball bat swing or a tennis play, golfer etc... There is an art to letting go and releasing the proper amount of energy along with timing.
  • Centering
  • Relaxation (stress relief)
  • Weight loss (body fat)
  • Balance & Agility
  • Flexibility  (static / interactive stretching)
  • Strength
  • Power & Speed
  • Theory of movement
  • Alignment & Posture
  • Joint & Ligament Strengthening
  • Mental Alertness
  • Improved Energy
  • Waist Control - Reduce back injuries through prevention, the waist is the “power center” of the body. Anatomically located at the center of the body, this director of movement is known by professional athletes and champions worldwide.
  • Core Movement Training
  • Proper Use of Energy
  • Discipline & Control
  • Self Confidence & Motivation
  • Trained Reflex
  • Improved Self Image
  • Ability to Flow
  • Stability
  • Strengthening Will & Endurance
  • Breath Control
  • Awareness
  • Focus
  • Patience
  • Poise
  • Positive Thinking
  • Timing
  • Improved Circulation - Elderly people with arthritis can enjoy the benefits
  • Mobility (tendon, ligament and joint mobilization)
  • Low Impact Cardio-vascular exercise (educate)
  • Injury Prevention (stretching / relaxation)

Levels

  • Empty-X
  • Short-X
  • Long-X
  • Flexi-X
  • Double-X
  • Ball-X
  • Movement Specialist
  • Double Flexi-X, Double Short-X

The first level of Xergenics is the practice of “empty hand”. Empty hand will foster coordination while strengthening, stretching and toning the muscles. The ability of relaxed awareness is taught through the movements to enable relaxation and stress relief.
